Takeaways

According to Michigan Medicine 3% of insured U.S. adults under the age of 65 take medications that weaken the immune system. Known as immunosuppressant drugs, these can help cure or help manage a variety of ailments, from cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, and others.

These may not be as uncommon as you think, as a wide range of people take steroids, which also affect our immune systems.

These, in turn, can reduce the efficacy of various coronavirus vaccines, which is why it’s important to speak to your physician so that you can decide whether or not you should postpone your medication when getting the vaccine.

But, at the end of the day, you must also consider continuing to wash your hands, wear a mask, and social distance in order to help curb the spread of the virus while also keeping yourself safe.
