Are Some Prescription Drugs Really Lowering the Efficacy of COVID-19 Vaccines?

What Steps Should You Take?

Whether or not you are part of the 3% of insured U.S. adults under the age of 65 who are taking medications that suppress the immune system, you should still follow safety guidelines: social distancing, wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings, frequent handwashing.

Even if you are immunocompromised and have gotten or are planning on getting the vaccine, these safety precautions still apply.
Some experts have also suggested that taking booster shots and changing the timing of certain medications may help in getting around the problem of lowering a vaccine’s efficacy. Your physician can help you determine if this is the best approach for you.

The bottom line is that getting vaccinated is a good idea regardless. Even with a lower efficacy, it can still serve as an additional layer of protection.
