Dementia and Alzheimer’s

A couple of years ago, a study determined the connection between vitamin D deficiency and certain types of dementia (Alzheimer’s disease was included). Researchers examined approximately 1,600 healthy older adults. None of them had dementia when the research started.

After a long period of time, the study concluded that those who had low vitamin D levels were 53 percent more prone to develop dementia than those who had normal levels. When referring to those who had severe vitamin D deficiency, the conclusion was pretty obvious—they were even more likely to develop a certain type of dementia, especially Alzheimer’s.
