As of the morning of the 18th of March 2020 these are the up to date figures on the growing threat of this new strain of the coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19.

Many health experts believe, though still unconfirmed, that the new strain of coronavirus originated in bats and might have something to do with a live animal market in Wuhan. The first transmission to humans was in Wuhan, China. Since then, the virus has mostly spread through person-to-person contact.

Let’s have a look at the current figures;

At the time of writing this article the coronavirus cases worldwide currently stands at 203,579 with 8226 confirmed deaths. As frightening a number that might seem, 82,866 people confirmed to have contracted the virus have actually recovered.

The cases that doctors are currently having to deal with stands at 112,487 worldwide. That number is broken down by ‘in Mild Condition’, which is 106,059 (94%) and 6,428 (6%) which are considered ‘Serious or Critical’.

However, they have officially designated many cases as closed, with some 91,092 cases resolved. Sadly 8,226 (9%) have resulted in death but more encouragingly 82,866 (91%) have resulted in the person affected being discharged after the virus subsided.

The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 169 countries and territories around the world and 1 international conveyance (the Diamond Princess cruise ship harbored in Yokohama, Japan). So let’s have a look at the figures from each country:
