Just like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus is also an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks normal, healthy tissue, according to the Arthritis Foundation. The Lupus Foundation of America estimates that 1.5 million Americans have this disease which mainly affects women between the ages of 15 and 45.

So, in addition to the joint pain that can feel like arthritis, lupus also causes other surprising symptoms such as inflammation, swelling, and damage to skin, kidneys, blood, heart, and lungs. If you think that something’s wrong, call your physician as soon as possible.
