Here’s a pretty persuasive reason to go out and get your flu shot every year: According to research published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2018, coming down with the flu makes you six times more likely to have a heart attack for at least a year after your infection. Evidently, the same virus that causes the flu can migrate to your heart.
