10 Breast Cancer Myths Debunked

  • You don’t have to worry if no one in your family had breast cancer – While it may be true that having a genetic predisposition for breast cancer can raise your risks, it doesn’t mean that those who don’t have a family history are less predisposed. At the same time, having a genetic background does not mean you will develop the disease either. Being tested positive for BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 genes doesn’t mean either that you will get breast cancer.
  • Deodorants and antiperspirants are causing breast cancer – This common belief started from the idea that aluminum-based ingredients in some products are linked to cancer. However, there is no scientific proof behind that.
  • You only need to take care of what you eat and exercise a lot – It’s true, adopting a healthier diet and exercising regularly plays a big role in your overall health, but it’s not enough to keep you safe from this disease. As long as you keep a healthy rhythm in your life and you do an annual mammogram, you will be safer and more relaxed.
  • If you detect cancer early, no need to worry – Early detection means you can get treated quickly, which reduces the risk of cancer progressing. But you still need to keep in mind that cancer might recur, so it’s more important to stay vigilant and catch the early signs.
