The secondary rollout of the first phase of vaccinations, known as Phase 1b, will likely incorporate essential workers as well despite the fact that the CDC has not made any official announcements on the matter. Essential workers were described as those whose ability to “remain healthy helps protect the health of others and/or minimize[s] disruption to society and the economy” according to the definition the CDC published in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR).
That being said, keep in mind that this definition varies from state to state but by current estimates, the group encompasses more than 87 million people in the U.S. alone, including emergency responders, firefighters, police officers, grocery store employees, teachers, transportation workers, and correction officers. But the list also includes those who cannot work from home in their respective fields.
