6. Thoracic outlet syndrome

This syndrome is actually a group of disorders that happen when your blood vessels or nerves that are found in the space between your collarbone and your first rib (thoracic outlet) are compressed. Thoracic outlet syndrome is often associated with pain in the shoulders and neck and numbness in the fingers.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, thoracic outlet syndrome could result from physical trauma such as a car accident, repetitive activities (from something such as typing or pitching a baseball), poor posture that compresses nerves, or pregnancy.

In fact, you could also be born with a predisposition to this syndrome if you have an extra rib or a particularly tight connective tissue between your spine and ribs. Physical therapy is the best solution, but in severe cases, surgery may be recommended.
