But responding in this habitual, superficial way can limit daily opportunities for genuine connection. “If you have developed a level of emotional trust with someone, try taking the extra time to identify what you’re actually feeling and respond in an authentic way,” DeCaro says. “One small act of self-disclosure could be the impetus for a much deeper, more meaningful interaction.”
