10 Common Triggers of Your Unwanted Psoriasis Flares

5. Smoking

This habit is harmful to all of us, but it’s probably the worst when it comes to psoriasis patients (along with alcohol). As a matter of fact, smoking can also affect the effectiveness of psoriatic arthritis meds.

Being a smoker may also increase your risk of developing psoriasis. Try to quit smoking—it is a surefire way to reduce your risk of developing this autoimmune skin disorder and improve your overall health (not to mention the amount of money you could save).

6. Weight gain

The National Psoriasis Foundation found that obese psoriasis patients are more likely to experience severe symptoms than patients with a normal weight. As a result, all doctors recommend weight loss to their psoriasis patients.

Minimize the number of calories you eat in a day and make healthier food choices in order to reduce the number on your scale. However, do not exaggerate! A rapid weight loss could affect your body in many ways, as it can increase your risk of developing certain health conditions.

P.S.: Throw those weight loss pills in the trash can and call a nutritionist!
