We have some good news for you: it’s impossible to catch an ear infection, however, you can catch the bacteria instead. This type of infection is often caused by a cold or some sort of contagious infection, but this doesn’t mean that the ear itself contagious.
Matthew Mintz, MD, a primary care doctor in Bethesda, Maryland explains the confusion. The common cold leads to congestion, due to the same congestion, the ear fills up with a liquid that can become infected by bacteria. The infection stays there, it doesn’t migrate.
