Antibacterial soap
Antibacterial soap has become extremely popular. But, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), these products give users a false sense of protection against bacteria. Instead, the FDA recommends using regular soap and water—antibacterial soap doesn’t protect you any better than a good old bar of soap.
It’s important to note that many of these antibacterial soaps are made with triclosan. Animal testing has shown that this ingredient can change the functioning of certain hormones in the body. Also, overuse of triclosan can contribute to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria—a kind of bacteria you don’t want to contract as they can be incredibly difficult to get rid of.
