Your toothbrush
All dentists will tell you that brushing and flossing are the best ways to fight cavities and plaque—but you have to know how to use your toothbrush properly. If you brush your teeth too hard or scrub them from left to right rather than in a circular motion, you can cause gum recession. Brushing immediately after a meal can also do more harm than good, especially if you’ve eaten acidic foods. One study suggests waiting at least 30 minutes after a meal before brushing your teeth. If you don’t, you risk damaging your enamel.
