Many people think that a movie will give them nightmares, but sleep and dreaming are incredibly complicated and studying them is not so easy. It seems that nightmares are actually stressful dreams which can lead to sleep deprivation, and if left untreated, they could adversely affect your health.
To be more specific, nightmares are the result of your unconscious mind releasing fears while you are sleeping. It is a difficult experience to be woken up at night sweating and panicking because of a gloomy scenario that appeared in your sleep, so, it’s important to try to find a fix.
“Nightmares are unsettling dreams usually associated with feelings of anxiety or fear that awakens you from sleep and sometimes include abnormal movements, behaviors, emotions, or perceptions. They can occur while you’re asleep, falling asleep, or even waking up,” says Raj Dasgupta, M.D., sleep expert and assistant professor of clinical medicine at Keck School of Medicine of USC.
