Fauci stated that COVID-19 combined with the flu season could be a very difficult time to handle for Americans. Two outbreaks at the same time would be fatal for the country, and he’s very concerned about that.
He urged Americans to continue to follow the safety guidelines meant to stop the spread of the virus, adding that as we go into winter, it’s likely that we’re going to have to deal with two respiratory diseases, so we should all expect a very difficult time. He also warned that going into the fall and winter in the same position as we are now, can only worsen the situation, so you shouldn’t be surprised if the number of positive coronavirus cases will see a spike.
According to Fauci, an uptick in positive cases is inevitable. According to the CDC, around 45 million people had the flu in the last ten years in the U.S. Between 12,000 to 61,000 people die every year because of the seasonal flu, and 810,000 people are hospitalized.
