Fauci is concerned about the new guidelines that state healthy people don’t have to get tested if they show no symptoms, even if they’ve been exposed to the virus.
Dr. Leana Wen, a former Baltimore health commissioner shares Fauci’s opinion, saying that, according to the CDC, 40 percent of infected people are asymptomatic, adding that it would be impossible to contain the virus as long as we’re not able to identify asymptomatic patients.
Both Fauci and Leana believe that we should increase our testing capacity, rather than limiting it. People need to get tested after getting in contact with an infected person, even if they show no symptoms.
Additionally, according to Dr. Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute, the new guidance is not appropriate and can turn out to be very dangerous. Testing these people is crucial if we want to prevent the spread of the virus, and if we don’t do so, the pandemic will only get worse as the time passes.
