Dr. Youdim explains that some pre-packaged meals (frozen dinners, for example) may be low calorie and helpful with dieting, but are usually very high in sodium. “A diet too high in sodium can raise blood pressure and compound kidney disease, adding to poor health in an already vulnerable diabetic population,” she says. She suggests limiting your sodium intake to 2,500 mg daily.
