Type of Cancer: Testicular Cancer
Lance Armstrong became an icon for cancer survivors, with his powerful “Livestrong” campaign for cancer awareness and the message to keep fighting.
Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer in October of 1996, and learned that it had already spread to his brain, lungs, and abdomen. He began chemotherapy immediately, and in February of 1997, he was declared cancer-free.
About his diagnosis, he said that it was important “To continue believing in yourself, believing in the doctors, believing in the treatment, believing in whatever I chose to believe in.”
