Wait… What do you mean by ‘wandering spleen’? We literally want to say that the spleen can’t stay in the same place for too long. And although we usually think that our physical organs have their seats marked, that’s not always the case.
A woman from Michigan was terrified after discovering that her spleen likes traveling (a lot). This rare condition is called ‘wandering spleen,’ and occurs when the spleen’s ligaments become weakened, allowing the internal organ to wander around.
CT scans taken only two days apart showed that the woman’s spleen moved from the upper left quadrant of the abdomen to the lower right quadrant. This means almost one foot!!! She had to deal with this due to an ongoing liver condition that made her spleen larger and larger.
As it went bigger in size, the spleen caused the ligaments to broke. The treatment for wandering spleen is removing it, but in this case, the woman needs a liver transplant.
