5. Dealing with itchy and dry skin

Remember what we’ve said about your body’s natural ability to repair itself when you’re dealing with hypothyroidism? Well… the same applies here. Those who have low thyroid hormone levels can experience itchy and dry skin since their outer layer has some difficulties repairing.

So, it’s quite simple: dead skin will take longer to shed, resulting in flaky and really dry skin. Approximately 74 percent of those who have hypothyroidism are also suffering from dry skin.

Sadly, this sign of hypothyroidism is often overlooked, since most of us don’t associate dry skin with thyroid issues.

However, bear in mind that hypothyroidism can also be caused by an autoimmune disease that can affect the skin in many ways (from redness to swelling).
