8. Gallbladder problems
It sounds odd, but feeling pain in your right shoulder could signal a gallstone that’s causing a blockage. You might also experience “rapidly intensifying” pain in the upper-right abdomen, the center of your abdomen below your breastbone, and between your shoulder blades.
“A gallbladder issue is typically diagnosed by a primary-care physician,” says Dr. Tanaka, “and it would be apparent to them because the shoulder joint itself won’t hurt with movement.” Note that high-fat, high-cholesterol, and low-fiber diets, as well as having diabetes can put you at increased risk for this condition.
Treatments include medications that can dissolve the gallstones. However, the results could appear in months or even years. In severe cases surgery is recommended in order to remove the gallbladder, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
