Stress can also manifest in your gut. Research has shown that anxiety and chronic stress can release many digestive woes, like abdominal cramps, pain, nausea, bloating, and diarrhea, as the Anxiety and Depression Association of America reports.

That’s because stress can change the balance of bacteria in the gut, which can affect the body’s immune response and has even been linked to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Furthermore, the American Institute of Stress suggests that increased heart rate from stress can disturb your digestive system and cause both acid reflux and heartburn.
