Small red spots spotted under the skin

Doctors refer to this sign as petechiae, but they are basically small round spots that occur on the outer layer. They are caused by bleeding, and doctors determine them as being petechiae based on their size and color. Most leukemia patients don’t even spot these red spots, especially because they usually appear in the lower extremities.

In most cases, oncologists say that petechiae occur around the ankles. If you think you have petechiae on the skin, don’t assume anything! These small red spots can also be caused by vasculitis, which is basically a reaction to a certain medication or an infection.
