Swollen and enlarged gums

Swollen and enlarged gums are often associated with acute leukemia. In fact, enlarged gums, also known as gingival hyperplasia, are among the most obvious symptoms of this type of cancer. Dr. Crilley says that most doctors look in leukemia patients’ mouths to see any changes.

Dr. Levis added that swollen and enlarged gums feel like a weird tightness in the mouth. If you think you have similar symptoms, talk to your doctor as soon as possible.

P.S.: Meds can also cause swollen gums. Blood pressure meds that contain calcium channel blockers, such as verapamil and diltiazem, are often the culprits of swollen and painful gums.
