Chapter no. 7: How the different types of vaccines work (cont.)
Vector vaccines—such as the kind from Johnson & Johnson—include a weakened version of a live virus—a different virus than the actual one that causes COVID-19—a virus with genetic material from the virus that causes COVID-19 inserted in it, a.k.a. a viral vector.
Once the viral vector enters the body, the genetic material gives cells instructions to produce a unique protein to the virus that causes COVID-19. With these instructions’ help, our cells produce enough copies of the protein, so our immune system will remember how to combat the virus, in case we get infected.
