No one wants to experience scratching from head lice, as some would say it’s pretty embarrassing, but head lice are pretty common among elementary school children. Head lice are basically small bugs that stick to body hair. According to an associate clinical professor of dermatology at Yale-New Haven Hospital and West Haven VA Medical Center, Rhonda Q. Klein, MD, head lice can be spotted in the form of eggs, also known as nits.
Unfortunately, nits can be easily confused with dandruff. However, once they become adults, you cannot miss them. If your kid or grandkid goes to school, it’s best to check his/her scalp from time to time. And if you see something unusual (moving around the head), it could be a lice infestation. Talk to your doctor first because there are several ways to remove them.
