What Drugs Can Suppress the Immune System?

By now you’re probably heard the term ‘immunity’ so many times that it has lost all meaning. Your immunity helps you safe- think of it as your body’s natural protective shield. But in some people, this shield may backfire.

Conditions such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, known as autoimmune diseases, cause the immune system to see certain parts of a patient’s body as threatening. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, the disease can make your immune system believe that your joints are the real enemy.

That’s where immunosuppressive drugs come in! They treat these conditions in order to fix a patient’s natural responses to perceived threats.
