Steroids
These immunosuppressive drugs, however, can be found commonly in some steroids, including medications such as dexamethasone and prednisone. These are typically administered for short-term conditions such as sinus infections, bronchitis and allergic rashes.
Steroids, by default, are incredibly immunosuppressive. Research has shown that even low doses can increase a patient’s risk of infections. On top of that, they can reduce someone’s response to vaccines, including the Coronavirus vaccine.
So, even if you’ve had small doses, it’s important to contact your physician before getting a vaccine, in order to look for guidance. They could provide you with a better timeline between your steroid medication and your vaccine.
Finally, your immune system may also be suppressed by certain types of chemotherapy, so that’s also something you need to keep in mind.
