Colonoscopies for people age 75 and older
There’s virtually no benefit to getting a colonoscopy if you’re age 75 or older, according to a study published in 2017 in the Annals of Internal Medicine. To measure the effectiveness and safety of a colonoscopy to prevent colorectal cancer in men and women between the ages of 70 and 74 and ages 75 to 79, researchers studied more than 1.3 million people who used Medicare preventive services and had no previous diagnostic or surveillance colonoscopies in the previous five years.
