2. Metabolic Syndrome

This is actually a group of risk factors that can increase your risk of developing certain health conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even stroke. It is often characterized by insulin resistance.

In general, those who are diagnosed with metabolic syndrome meet any three of the following conditions:

  • Large waistline
  • Elevated triglycerides
  • Low HDL cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Elevated fasting blood sugar

If you check at least three things on the above list, you’ll probably be diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. If that’s the case, you are at higher risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.

Luckily, a ketogenic diet can help you. How so? It can help you get better cholesterol values, minimize blood pressure and blood sugar. In a 12-week study, those diagnosed with metabolic syndrome who followed a ketogenic diet lost approximately 14 percent of their body fat.

As a matter of fact, they also saw a decrease in triglyceride numbers, 50 percent to be more specific.
