6. Pesticides
Pesticide exposure is often associated with lung issues. People who are exposed to pesticides may experience a cough that never goes away, and this can be a sign of bronchitis, asthma, or other lung diseases. You should always follow the instructions when you’re using sprays that are designed to kill cockroaches or other bugs.
You should also let some air in after using pesticides. “How much you need, whether it’s to open all the windows or just one window is a matter of judgment,” Dr. Friedman-Jimenez says. “Ventilation doesn’t hurt, and in some cases could avoid a problem,” he adds.
