Researchers found that people living at high altitudes had a lower risk of developing metabolic syndrome, which leads to obesity and high cholesterol than those who lived at sea level. This theory talks about the less oxygen from higher altitudes that may help your lungs and heart function properly.
“The possible connection is ‘interesting,’ says Mary Ann Bauman, MD, a spokesperson for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement (who was not involved in any of the studies noted here), “but requires more study to determine if there is a true association.”
