Frequently Asked Questions About the Medicare ANOC
What should you do if your ANOC never arrived?
Insurance companies were legally required to deliver your notice by September 30, 2026. If you did not receive yours, check your member portal online or call your insurer immediately.
If your plan exited your county, you should have received a non-renewal notice instead. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) to verify your current plan’s operating status for 2027.
Why didn’t you receive an ANOC for your Medigap policy?
Medigap plans do not issue an Annual Notice of Change. Medigap policies follow standardized benefit designs set by federal law, meaning their covered benefits do not change each year.
While your Medigap premium may increase on your policy anniversary, the underlying coverage remains unchanged. However, if you have a standalone Part D plan alongside Medigap, that drug plan must send an ANOC.
Can you change plans after the December 7 deadline?
The standard Annual Enrollment Period closes permanently at midnight on December 7, 2026. After that date, most beneficiaries cannot change their coverage until the following autumn.
However, if you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can use the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. This window runs from January 1 through March 31, allowing you to switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare.
How do you know if your doctor remains in-network for 2027?
Do not rely solely on online plan directories, which can become outdated quickly. Call your doctor’s billing office directly and provide your plan’s exact name and carrier.
Confirm that your providers will participate in the network starting January 1, 2027. If they are leaving your plan, use the Annual Enrollment Period to find a plan they accept.
