Hair loss – side effects from medications

Lynne Goldberg, the director of the Hair Clinic at Boston Medical Center, told the Boston Globe that there are several medications that can contribute to temporary hair loss, such as antidepressants, anticoagulants (blood thinners), and certain steroids.

Though the majority of the reasoning is still unknown, these medications can interfere with the normal cycle of scalp hair growth, which causes the follicles to go in a resting phase and fall out too soon. The good news is, this particular form of hair loss can be treated. If you have a clue about how one of your medications can contribute to irregular hair loss, talk to your doctor.
