Hypertension drugs (Beta-blockers)
Examples: atenolol (Tenormin), carvedilol (Coreg), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), propranolol (Inderal), sotalol (Betapace), timolol (Timoptic)
This category of prescription meds is prescribed to lower blood pressure and slow down the heart rate. Aside from that, however, hypertension drugs also cause memory problems by blocking essential chemicals to the brain.

I’ve noticed a change in my memory. I thought it was because of a stroke, but I think it’s the medication.
If these drugs actually cause or have properties that may cause Alzheimer’s, then most of the medical profession and their drug companies partners in crime should be sent to Devils Island, where we all will forget them. . .we are talking millions upon millions of people worldwide taking statins and hypertension meds. . .what the hell is going on?
No I never submitted anything to you previously.
I am currently on Xanax as well as Crestor. I am also on Omeprazole which is another memory-killer. In all, I an lucky if I remember my name and the frustration I feel over my memory loss – at the most inopportune of times – is palpable. Too many drugs are passed on to guinea pigs masquerading as “patients.” The entire FDA should be fired or shot.
I forgot what I was going to say.
I have been taking Simvastatin for about 5yrs. I mentioned to the doctor that I have been hearing negative news paper articles on ZOCOR,and maybe I should stop taking it.Her response was no you need to take Zocor for your high Cholesterol. I have kept some of my lab results. And I don’t believe I am high anymore. The only reason why I am responding to this.I have starting to loose my memory shortime. I used to have a excelent memory. So I am really nervous about my new condition Thanks Jeffrey N Stratton 3604870912,1255 NE 183rd Ave Port,OR 97230
I’ve been wondering where drinking water goes, after it leaves the sink. Here is the reason . How many pounds of drugs are flushed down the drain in our homes, and the waste from drug companies., daily. Where does this water GO?
Unless your doctor is not connected to organizations like Northwell who have bought their practices and their souls don’t expect to get an honest answer as we would have in pre-Obama care medicine days. Doctors now are paid salaries, schedule 15 minute appointments that you can’t get for three months and speak only the party lines controlled by their employers. With rare exception they appear to have forgotten the Hippocratic oath when it comes to patients.
My Dad had an incredible memory. He could recall & recite family genealogy going back many generations! Sadly he became a victim of the medical industry which concluded his high cholesterol would certainly kill him if he did not submit to cholesterol medications they prescribed . Trusting his family physician and submitting to the many high cholesterol drugs the doctors freely marketed he suddenly began the decline to not knowing who he or any of our family members were. Many years after Dad’s passing as I was sorting through documents to keep or discard I discovered some of his blood tests. My Dad’s HDL and triglyceride numbers completely negated the LDL factor which his doctors used to draw him into their web of good fortune to promote new drugs on the market.
I agree. There are Dr.”s out there that follow their passion. It is the big business groups that have ruined health care. They have become greedy!!! 15 minutes for an appt is not at all enough to get a patients needs or questions answered! I think we waste time and money not able to get problems solved because not enough time is spent. Expensive guessing game! Government does not want us living longer!
I currently take four of the medicines listed above and I have experienced some embarrassing memory loss episodes. After reading this article I have to make another appointment with my doctor.
Ambien will cause very serious harm to your memory.
I take 4 of the 6.I want from a life of normal health to being declared non employable in last than 4 years. My memory is a joke compared to what it was. I used to be able to have several model years of electronics I sold in my memory that I was able to recite on quie. Not I am lucky if I remember the years I was born. Wow. Major pain in the ass
The standard explanation for overlooking side effects is the benefits of the medication are more important overall than the potential side effects.
An example of this would be, if a medication would keep you alive but caused all your hair to fall out. Many people would believe that is a fair or appropriate trade off. Unfortunately, the actual side effects we experience are not as innocuous.
As users of these drugs, at least give us the information we need before we begin using them, to make the choice ourselves. Many politicians and physicians believe we are not capable of making the “correct” choice.
