5. You lost your sense of smell and taste
Anosmia, or the loss of smell is something that should concern you, especially if you can’t smell strong scents. Losing your sense of smell and/or taste could be due to coronavirus. This symptom was actually discovered by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery when healthcare professionals found that many individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 had lost their ability to smell.
However, doctors aren’t surprised by these findings, since most viral and respiratory infections can cause a loss of smell/taste. As a matter of fact, 40 percent of people who experience anosmia deal with a viral infection. According to the American Academy of Otolaryngology, anosmia and dysgeusia, or the loss of taste “are significant symptoms associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
So, if you aren’t able to enjoy the smell or the taste of your coffee, talk to your doctor as soon as possible—you may have been infected by COVID-19.
