5 Reasons Why Obesity Increases Your COVID-19 Risk

Due to these potential risks, Dr Aminian emphasizes the importance of patients with obesity to take precautions to protect themselves from Covid-19: “Because patients with obesity are so vulnerable to infection from Covid-19, it’s essential they follow public health guidelines like wearing a mask and social distancing.”

Being cautious is extremely important because, as Dr Aminian states, patients with obesity may present a higher risk of developing severe forms of this illness, even though they’ve been vaccinated. There is previous experience in this matter, that shows how patients with obesity haven’t always presented an adequate immunological response, even after being vaccinated.

There are still many things that need to be learned when it comes to Covid-19, including a weight measurement. But if there’s one thing they are all sure about, is that losing weight should absolutely be a goal. Meanwhile, Dr Aminian asks patients to remain in contact with their health care providers and dietitians. Plus, they should take extra precautions and stay vigilant to lower the risk of their potential exposure to the virus.
