Do not ignore other people’s feelings
It is in our nature to evaluate other people’s experiences based on our own experiences, so when we do not understand their feelings and situations we tend to minimize what they are going through.
For instance, if your friend can’t get married this year, we tend to say “well, you will have another wedding next year”, but you do not know how many days they did not sleep because they were nervous about the event or the amount of money they may lose. Of course, everything will be fine and life goes on, but at the end of the day, someone could cry and feel sad.
“To a 13-year-old, graduation from middle school is a big deal. To a bride-to-be who has been planning her wedding for a year, this is a big deal,” Kessler said.
