8 Body Parts You’re Cleaning Too Often

Dead skin cells

It’s recommended to wash your face twice a day, but you shouldn’t deep clean your face on a daily basis, according to dermatologist Jody Levine, MD, of Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC. Levine explains how over-exfoliating your skin can be just as harmful as using the wrong type of product because it can strip your skin from its natural oils and cause breakouts.

She highly recommends exfoliating only twice a week. This way, you’ll eliminate any existing dead skin cells, without being left with a raw face. Also, make sure you’re being extra cautious about what types of products you apply to your face, as the skin on your face can be more sensitive than the other parts of the body.
