Some detox cleanses recommended by “wellness bloggers” are a total waste of time, energy, and money, according to gastroenterologist and internist Roshini Raj, MD, women’s health advocate for “Keep Her Awesome”.

Raj’s argument is that your body naturally detoxifies itself. After all, your liver, kidneys, and colon are there for a reason! Even more, she says that in the colon there are actually healthy bacteria that reside there to help with your detoxification.

So too many “cleanses” might disrupt the flora. Skip the full-on detox and instead try adding more fiber to your diet, which fosters good bacteria. You’ll feel much better!
