5. Carpal tunnel syndrome
A common condition that affects more and more Americans each year is carpal tunnel syndrome (also known as median nerve compression). This condition causes pain, weakness, numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm. According to WebMD, all these symptoms indicate that repetitive movements such as typing or playing an instrument are pinching your carpal nerve.
When compared to men, women are actually three times more likely to develop this syndrome. As a general rule, the thumb, index, and middle fingers are the first to feel pain. You should also know that in some cases surgery may be needed.
