When someone asks “How are you?” many of us instinctively reply that we’re good. But responding in this habitual, superficial way can limit daily opportunities for genuine connection. “If you have developed a level of emotional trust with someone, try taking the extra time to identify what you’re actually feeling and respond in an authentic way,” DeCaro says. “One small act of self-disclosure could be the impetus for a much deeper, more meaningful interaction.”
