11 Skin Conditions You Never Knew Existed

4. Morgellons disease

Another rare condition is Morgellons disease. People who are living with this disease have the strange sensation that something wants to find its way out of their skin. However, they can call “that thing” small fibers and particles.

According to the Morgellons Research Foundation, Morgellons disease affects more than 14,000 families. However, you should note that this condition appears the most in women who are white and over 40.

Some may confuse this disorder with Lyme disease, but it’s not the same thing. Experts think that Morgellons disease can be associated with a psychological problem since its unusual signs and symptoms are quite similar to the ones patients with delusional infestation experience.

The symptoms of Morgellons disease are the following:

  • fatigue
  • depression
  • sores
  • lesions that appear in certain areas such as extremities, the head or trunk
  • anxiety

Doctors need more studies in order to better understand this disorder.

P.S.: Since more research needs to be done, as we speak, there’s no standard treatment for this rare disorder.
