Updated Eligibility Rules, Security Upgrades, and Rural Programs

Medicare is implementing stricter citizenship and immigration verification requirements for 2027 enrollees. Beneficiaries must demonstrate lawful presence as a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, green card holder, Cuban-Haitian entrant, or Compact of Free Association migrant.

You must satisfy these lawful status requirements when enrolling in Part A and Part B or selecting a Medicare Advantage plan. Existing enrollees with verified records on file will maintain their coverage without interruption.

To improve care access outside metropolitan centers, Medicare is rolling out the Rural Health Transformation Program in 2027. This initiative invests in diagnostic upgrades, specialty telehealth hubs, and clinic capabilities across rural states.

Online beneficiary accounts are also receiving enhanced protection. The Medicare portal has integrated secure verification services, including ID.me, CLEAR, and Login.gov, supported by artificial intelligence tools that identify potential identity theft and fraudulent claims.

CMS is also highlighting TrumpRx.gov, a federally promoted website displaying cash prices and discount coupons for common prescriptions. Remember that purchases made through third-party discount cards do not count toward your $2,400 Part D out-of-pocket cap.
