My Chest Hurts. Could I Be Anemic? (8 Silent Symptoms of Anemia)

2. You’re tired all the time

University of Chicago Associate Professor of Medicine Andrew Artz, MD, says that one of the most common symptoms of anemia is extreme fatigue. “Fatigue is the predominant symptom,” Dr. Artz says. “The challenge of the symptom of fatigue is that every person has a different experience of how they notice it. Some will simply feel more tired; others will feel it with activity.”

This annoying exhaustion is actually caused by the same thing that leads to dizziness and shortness of breath: lacking iron or vitamin B12. When you don’t have enough iron or vitamin B12, your body can’t produce the proper amounts of hemoglobin, and, without the adequate amounts of this type of protein, there’s not enough oxygen for your body to function properly. To sum things up, if you’re tired all the time, you might have anemia.
