You can opt for herbal laxatives

As we said before, it’s perfectly normal to experience episodes of constipation at some point in your life, whether you are young or senior, and we have to admit that it can make you feel uncomfortable and adversely affect your quality of life. Thus, you can opt for herbal laxatives that can help stimulate your digestive tract. In general, many over the counter laxatives contain herbal ingredients.

Herbal laxatives usually contain anthraquinones, which can help you go to the toilet. Moreover, the most common and effective herbal laxatives are psyllium, rhubarb, senna, slippery elm and cascara sagrada (buckthorn).

It’s very important to understand that you can use laxatives for short periods of time, but if your symptoms persist you have to talk to your doctor as soon as possible, try to schedule an appointment and follow their advice. For instance, senna is safe for adults, but only for short periods of time and is not recommended for pregnant women, those who are breastfeeding or people who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, or other conditions.

You should add more probiotic foods to your diet

According to health experts, probiotics can help you prevent chronic constipation and reduce your symptoms. For those of you who didn’t know that, probiotics are beneficial bacteria that naturally occur in your gut and are essential for your digestive tract and overall health.

So, if you want to take advantage of all the benefits of probiotics, you have to eat more probiotic foods, such as yogurt, sauerkraut and kimchi, or to talk to your doctor and take some probiotic supplements.

In general, constipation occurs when there is an imbalance of bacteria in the gut. So, in this case, it is important to increase your intake of probiotic foods.

A 2019 study found that people who take probiotic supplements or eat probiotic foods are less likely to develop constipation and those who already have this condition will have mild symptoms.

You can eat more dried plums and avoid dairy products

Many people don’t know this, but dairy products can cause constipation or diarrhea if you have an intolerance to them. In general, children can be intolerant to the protein that can be found in milk and adults can develop lactose intolerance. So, just like any other condition, symptoms can vary from person to person, namely that some can develop diarrhea, while others can have constipation. However, regardless of the category, you belong to, in this case, it is recommended to give up dairy products.

That being said, medical experts recommend dried plums in treating constipation. Dried plums not only contain fiber that is good for your gut, but it is also an excellent source of sorbitol, which is a sugar alcohol that has a laxative effect.

Speaking of food intolerance, here are 10 Signs You May Have a Food Intolerance and 9 Incredible Things Your Body Does to Protect Itself.
