Electrocardiograms
There’s never a reason to do an electrocardiogram in an asymptomatic, healthy person, Besser says. An EKG (also known as an ECG) records the electrical signals in your heart and is often conducted in a doctor’s office, a clinic or a hospital room, according to the Mayo Clinic. It’s a painless, noninvasive test in which electrodes are attached to the patient’s chest and sometimes his or her limbs. The sensors are typically left on for a few minutes as the EKG gathers information from 12 different areas of the heart.
