3. Getting “flat abs” in 10 minutes
Many posts on social media sites such as Instagram or Facebook, and online articles promise to provide a simple workout (in most cases just one exercise move) that will give you a flat stomach in mere minutes a day.
Take note that unless you have very low levels of body fat, the muscles in the abdomen are naturally covered by a layer of fat, says Jasmine Marcus, DPT, a physical therapist in Ithaca, New York. And this is perfectly normal!
“Even if you did a great abdominal workout five times a week, you still probably wouldn’t be able to see them,” she says. After a serious workout routine you might feel them stronger, but they’ll keep hiding under that layer of fat until you lose weight. So, one exercise move can’t give you magical results!
