A 2012 study showed that heavy alcohol use can actually change the wiring of your brain and make you more prone to experiencing symptoms of anxiety.

Coffee has its health benefits, but overdoing it could ramp up your anxious symptoms. Caffeine is a stimulant, meaning that it can increase heart rate and make people feel more alert. However, studies show the stimulant effects of caffeine can also make people with anxiety feel more restless and exhibit stronger symptoms.
